I first read this on the 28th July 2006.

Well, blow me down with a feather and brush me into the corner of the room. I started this with a lack of enthusiasm given the general dearth of excitement in the previous book, and its shocking ending. Well this book started pretty well but page ninety-one hit me, knocked me down and left me floundering shell-shocked on the floor.

Sadly, the rest of the book lost momentum. Karen Traviss tells the story she wants to tell, but in the end it wasn't quite the story I wanted to read. I wanted a bit more earth-shattering death and destruction whereas Karen is more concerned about people resolving moral dilemmas. However, her writing, and perhaps her confidence, has improved over the trilogy and this remains a pretty good novel.

Loaded on the 16th December 2006.
